Abstract
Discussion of hypermedia, memory, and metacognition focuses on a study of graduate students that examined how hypermedia instruction can influence structures of knowledge, format selection for graphical descriptions of hypermedia-related information, hypermedia knowledge, concept-map complexity, and metacognitive accuracy. Future research is discussed. (DB)

Abstract
Introduces a framework for comparing and evaluating knowledge representation schemes based on the requirements for "good" representation discussed in extant literature. Comparative analysis and evaluation of four popular knowledge representation schemes--Logic, Production Rules, Semantic Nets and Frames--are discussed in support of validity and utility of the proposed framework. Abstract
Bibliometric maps of science are a well-established research subject. But their adoption as a science policy support tool is lacking. We think this is because the user does not immediately comprehend a map and (as a result) is not enticed into using it. To help this comprehension, we propose the use of "qualitative maps": an umbrella term for diverse tools such as concept maps and mental maps. We developed a tool that interfaces between a qualitative map and a bibliometric map which lets the user create a correspondence between the distinct vocabularies of the maps. We also conducted two user studies: the first explored the combined use of bibliometric and qualitative maps and the second the preferred format of the map andthe word-usage in the description of its elements. Abstract
Effective knowledge management maintains the knowledge assets of an organization by identifying and capturing useful information in a usable form, and by supporting refinement and reuse of that information in service of the organization's goals. A particularly important asset is the "internal" knowledge embodied in the experiences of task experts that may be lost with shifts in projects and personnel. Concept Mapping provides a framework for making this internal knowledge explicit in a visual form that can easily be examined and shared. However, it does not address how relevant concept maps can be retrieved or adapted to new problems. CBR is playing an increasing role in knowledge retrieval and reuse for corporate memories, and its capabilities are appealing to augment the concept mapping process. This paper describes ongoing research on a combined CBR/CMap framework for managing aerospace design knowledge. Its approach emphasizes interactive capture, access, and application of knowledge representing different experts' perspectives, and unobtrusive learning as knowledge is reused (AU)
